*Sigh*

I wish we had some parish vespers, or something to go to tonight. I feel like praying before the tabernacle. But that's not up to me. Oh well, I guess my bedroom will have to do. =)

If our parish were to have regular vespers, what time would you suggest we schedule those vespers? I like the idea, as I already pray vespers, but as most priests do, in private.

Last night, I attended vespers in the setting of a Eucharistic Holy Hour; or maybe it was a Eucharistic Holy Hour in the setting of vespers. Anyway, it was lovely, and I heard the new archbishop of Detroit, Allen Vigneron, preach a most marvelous and inspiring homily on the topic of the Eucharistic vocation of the priest. It reminded me so much of the homily Abp. Vigneron preached at my first Mass almost 13 years ago.

Hey Father! We watched you on EWTN- at the installation Mass. Third row, left side about 4 people in. You were on about 10 times. Must be that photogenic melon of yours.

If we were going to do vespers here, I would suggest something like, 6:30. I think that would be the best because Vespers is traditonaly said at 6pm, or at sunset. But I figure 6:30 because it is later than righ at 6, which is about when people are eating dinner. I don't really know though... Something to think about. =)

I'd be willing to start this on Ash Wednesday, and continue it through the season of Lent. I need to look at getting several copies of "Christian Prayer: The Liturgy of the Hours," the one-volume edition of the Divine Office. I think I have two copies here at the rectory. St. Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo offers morning and evening prayer in common, or at least, they used to back in the day, when I was a young associate at a neighboring parish. Of course, that was twelve years ago. Gee, I'm old. I digress.

There is plenty of time to get several copies of the one-volume "Christian Prayer," in order to make vespers available. I think this is a good and holy thing to do, and Lent is a perfect time to begin this ancient and universal practice.

Do you realize how the Holy Spirit is using you, Jock?
