Worshiping with our Hands
We need to promote not only crossings, genuflecting, and bowing, but breast-beating especially. I do all four. Ritual breast-beating, at any of the points during Mass when our sins are mentioned, expresses the sense of sin in such a way as to help open us to the hope of God's mercy. It is a physical sign to remind us of our sins, and is something that I feel is very important to today's culture. Come to think of it, perhaps that's why it has all but disappeared in the Novus Ordo. The sense of sin has become something no one wants to hear about. All the more reason to bring it back!
